6 Unique Melbourne Wedding Venues I Love To Shoot

There’s nowhere else in the world like Melbourne! From chic hotels to secret laneways, there are just so many unique Melbourne wedding venues all over the city. If you’re planning a Melbourne wedding, one of your biggest decisions is definitely deciding on a venue, since there are just so many winners.

I just love the energy, excitement and fun of shooting in the city and I’m so excited to share my favourite spots with you! As a wedding photographer, these are the best wedding venues in Melbourne, thanks to the gorgeous design, incredible spaces for you and your guests to enjoy, and (of course!) lots of perfect wedding photography locations!

Of course, it can be mega challenging to book a venue, so aim to visit as many as you can. When you find one you love, you’ll know it right away!

The George Ballroom

One of the top wedding venues in Melbourne has to be The George Ballroom. It’s classic and traditional in the most beautiful way. It dates back to 1860 and is a St Kilda institution, renowned for its period charms, intricate vaulted ceilings and gorgeous hardwood floors. This venue really ticks all the boxes — elegant, romantic and so charming.

George Ballroom weddings can hold up to 150 for a seated dinner and dancing or 200 for a cocktail function. From Great Gatsby-style champagne towers to an experienced wedding team to help with all of the charming details, it’s easy to see why this space is a favourite with so many couples looking for a historic reception venue. It’s popular though, so lock it in early so you don’t miss out!

Glasshaus

Looking for something unique, a bit different from the traditional venues? Let me share one of my top alternative wedding venues in Melbourne — Glasshaus

Originally started as a nursery, hence the name, Glasshaus now has several venues across the city, all with a botanical and nature theme. They’re all so inspiring and refreshing — and thanks to all the gorgeous greenery and florals, Glasshaus wedding photography is seriously next level!

Glasshaus Inside is a stunning 1920s-era warehouse space in Cremorne, with beautiful white brickwork and dripping ivy everywhere, while Glasshaus Outside and Glasshaus

Brücke, both in Richmond, are stunning spaces for Melbourne weddings. Glasshaus Outside hosts lots of weddings, a soaring greenhouse space just soaked in natural light and botanicals.

 Stones Of The Yarra Valley

Ok, let’s talk Stones of the Yarra Valley — one of the most idyllic and serene wedding venues. It’s also awesome for foodies, as the dining here is seriously unbelievable. There’s an on-site chapel for your ceremony and lots of beautiful, historic spaces, including the ivy-covered Dairy, ideal for canapes and cocktails. Both the Barn and the Stables at Stone are ideal reception venues.

Stones of the Yarra Valley wedding photography is also so gorgeous, with exposed brickwork, historic gardens and rolling vineyards — honestly, we could just shoot all day here!

While the venue is only an hour from Melbourne, there’s luxury accommodation on site, with The Farmhouse at Meletos offering 23 rooms, so it’s a great destination wedding venue too

 Rippon Lea Estate

Imagine running away to tie the knot in a romantic French chateau, complete with chandeliers and exposed timber ceilings — ok, but now imagine it in Byron Bay!

Deux Belettes is such a whimsical and inviting NSW wedding venue in the gorgeous Byron Hinterland — delivering elegance, inspiration, and plenty of natural beauty. Owned by a local family, all of the property has been slowly built over time, using reclaimed materials, making it such a meaningful choice for couples looking for a sustainable and environmentally-friendly wedding venue.

A Deux Belettes wedding can seat up to 100 guests in an outdoor marquee, but they also have plenty of charming spaces for elopements or small weddings. Wedding photography is a dream here too, with abundant gardens, twinkling fairy lights, and ivy-covered stonework–such a romantic backdrop for your fairytale wedding day!

Churchill Events

Churchill Events is perfect for a country Victoria wedding that’s still close to the city. Set in Taradale, just over an hour from Melbourne, premier florists Prunella have converted an old church from 1858, and Sunday school hall into an unforgettable wedding venue.

As a Churchill Events wedding photographer, I love shooting here because of all the tiny and beautiful details that give the space its rich history and character. Stained glass that sparkles in the morning light, vaulted ceilings and inviting gardens are so amazing, but Prunella’s floral creations also work beautifully in this space. If you have an eye for aesthetics, I think Churchill might be love at first sight!

The chapel can seat up to 150 and it’s easy to personalise the church and school hall with florals or decor that match your style, so there are plenty of ways to make the space your own. Think of it as a charming blank slate that you can use to bring your wedding vision to life!

Montsalvat Arts & Events

Where can I celebrate my wedding in Melbourne that feels like a European fairy tale? If you want to channel your inner Cinderella and bring some old-world glamour to your wedding, then you’re going to absolutely love Montsalvat Arts & Events in Eltham.

This creative space was founded as an art and gallery space, with over 12 acres of architecturally unique buildings, cottages and romantic gardens, with sculptures and art installations dotted throughout. It seriously feels like you’re walking through a provincial French village. The quaint Bluestone Chapel is a stone church that can hold up to 30 for an intimate wedding ceremony, and the Great Hall Gallery and Forecourt are beautiful spaces for larger groups.

With floor-to-ceiling stained glass, candlelit dining and whimsical gardens, it’s seriously hard to not feel like European royalty from the moment you enter!

I can’t wait to hear all about which Melbourne wedding venue you choose! If you have any questions about venue spaces and how they might work with your wedding photography, contact me at any time — there are few things I love more than chatting about photos, so I'm always keen to help!
